Manchester City host the holders on Wednesday 14 October. Paris Saint-Germain have won the Champions League in each of the last two seasons, and they arrive at the Etihad for a 20:00 BST (21:00 CEST) kick-off. The same night, José Mourinho takes Real Madrid back to the Stadio Olimpico to face Roma, the club he led to a European trophy, at 21:00 CEST (20:00 BST).

After matchday 1, City, PSG and Madrid have three points each. Roma have one.

Manchester City v Paris Saint-Germain

City's official preview puts Enzo Maresca's side on eight wins from eight this season. That run includes a 2-0 win at Porto on 8 September, with Erling Haaland scoring both goals, and a 3-0 win at Liverpool on Sunday. Haaland has eight goals in eight appearances, according to Sports Mole. Luis Enrique's PSG beat Slovan Bratislava 6-1 on 9 September and, after a slow start to their Ligue 1 season, have won their last three league games, the latest a 3-1 win over Le Mans on Saturday.

The clubs last met in the 2024/25 league phase, when PSG came back from 2-0 down to win 4-2 in Paris. City count seven Champions League meetings in all: four City wins, one draw and two PSG wins.

City play at home for the first time since the Premier League's independent commission found against them in its financial-rules case. The club deny wrongdoing and have lodged an appeal, and the sanction is still to be decided. Our report on the appeal has the details.

Pep Guardiola is expected to attend, which would be his first visit to the Etihad since he left the club at the end of last season after a decade in charge. That is a report by The Times' Paul Hirst, carried by PA, rather than a confirmed appearance.

Roma v Real Madrid

Mourinho managed Roma and won the first Conference League with them, beating Feyenoord 1-0 in the final in May 2022. He returns to the Olimpico as Madrid's manager, against a Roma side under Gian Piero Gasperini that is playing in the Champions League for the first time in seven years.

Roma opened the league phase with a 1-1 draw at Fenerbahçe on 10 September. Madrid beat Inter 2-1 on 8 September, the match we reported here. Both clubs played at the weekend: Madrid won 1-0 at home to Villarreal on Saturday, and Roma drew 0-0 at Como on Sunday.

Tuesday 13 October

Two other ties come first, both at 21:00 CEST (20:00 BST).

Barcelona visit Galatasaray at RAMS Park in Istanbul with a 100 per cent record in all competitions this season: eight La Liga wins, plus a 5-1 win over Feyenoord on matchday 1. It is their first away trip of this Champions League campaign. Galatasaray, managed by Okan Buruk, lost 3-1 at Sporting CP on matchday 1. Hansi Flick's side go to PSG next, on 20 October.

Atlético Madrid host Manchester United at the Metropolitano. Atlético lost 2-1 at Liverpool on matchday 1, and United beat Sabah 4-0 in their first Champions League match for 1,003 days. The clubs last met in the 2022 last 16, which Atlético won 2-1 on aggregate. Also on Tuesday, Arsenal host Lille in the first meeting between the clubs.
