Corrections policy

We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we say so on the page, not quietly.

What counts as a correction

A factual error: a wrong name, score, date, figure, quote or attribution. Corrections get a visible, dated note on the article and the Updated date is set. Typos and formatting fixes are not corrections and are made without a note.

Updates versus corrections

A developing story may be updated as new information arrives. Updates are marked with the Updated date. A correction fixes something that was wrong when published; an update adds something that was not known.

How to request one

Use the contact page and include the article link and what you believe is wrong. We reply to every correction request, usually within one working day.
