Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday in the first Clásico of the La Liga season, and Kylian Mbappé scored both goals, the second his 100th for the club, according to Real Madrid's match report. It was Barcelona's first league defeat of the season, after nine wins from nine.

Barcelona led Real Madrid by six points before kick-off, as we noted in our preview. The gap is now three.

Mbappé scored first off a clearance

Real Madrid had the better of the first half, according to their report. Arda Güler missed by centimetres in the fourth minute, and Joan Garcia saved a second attempt from him in the 18th. The breakthrough came in the 41st minute from a Yan Diomande cross: Gerard Martín tried to clear it, the ball hit Mbappé, and he put it in with his right thigh.

Barcelona answered two minutes later, but Lamine Yamal missed from close range. Just before the break Diomande went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and hit the side netting.

Raphinha levelled, and Lunin kept it level

In the 56th minute Real Madrid called for João Cancelo to be sent off for a stamp on the back of Diomande's thigh, which forced the winger off the pitch for a minute, the club's report said. It does not say whether the referee took any action. Five minutes later Raphinha equalised.

Güler forced a good save from a tight angle soon after. Andriy Lunin, who started because Thibaut Courtois was out with flu, ESPN reported, then denied a Gerard Martín header from a corner in the 66th minute.

Bellingham, Güler and Camavinga set up the winner

The decisive move came late in the second half. Jude Bellingham beat a man with a roulette and found Güler, who played in Eduardo Camavinga. Camavinga got past Pau Cubarsí and set up Mbappé for his second. Real Madrid held on from there, and the club's report praised José Mourinho's side for a very solid performance.

What it changes

Mbappé's two goals took him to 100 for Real Madrid, Goal reported. For Barcelona it ends an unbeaten league start that had them on 27 points from nine games, and it cuts the gap at the top to three points.
