Tests carried out on Friday ruled out an injury to Raphinha, club sources told EFE, and the forward is expected to be available when Barcelona host Getafe in La Liga on Saturday 10 October. Barcelona has not published a medical communiqué about the episode.

Brazil released him after an oedema was found

Raphinha scored a penalty in Brazil's 4-2 friendly win over Australia in Brisbane on Tuesday 29 September, the goal that made it 2-2 on 45 minutes, and was replaced by Endrick at half-time. On Wednesday the Brazilian football confederation (CBF) said an imaging test had found a small muscle oedema in the back of his right thigh.

The CBF said the decision to release him was a precaution, taken with his recovery in mind, and that nobody would be called up in his place for the friendly against India. He missed that game on Saturday and went back to Barcelona, where he landed on Thursday, according to EFE.

What the club sources said

Raphinha was examined on Friday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. EFE reported, citing club sources, that the oedema is not serious, and that the findings matched the CBF's initial diagnosis. That is where the account stops being official. The all-clear comes from sources, not from a Barcelona statement, and no recovery timeline has been published.

The same area has caused problems before

A report published by the Gulf Daily News said he was limited to 33 club appearances last season by fitness issues, and that he missed four games in April with a hamstring problem in the same leg, sustained on international duty. In June, the CBF confirmed a muscle injury in the back of his right thigh after he went off against Haiti at the World Cup. That makes this the third time in 2026 that a problem in that part of his leg has come up on Brazil duty.

He arrives in form

It matters because Raphinha has been the most productive player in Barcelona's early season. He scored a hat-trick in the 7-2 win over Racing Santander and another in the 3-1 win at Sevilla, and went into the international break with 12 league goals in seven appearances.

Getafe come next

Barcelona's first game after the break is Getafe at Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday 10 October, kick-off 18:30 CEST, on Matchday 8 of La Liga, according to the club's own schedule. Whether Raphinha starts is a decision for the coaching staff once he is back in full training.
