Hansi Flick

Hansi Flick is Barcelona's head coach, born in Heidelberg in 1965. He was a midfielder at Bayern Munich between 1985 and 1990 and won the Bundesliga there, then started coaching in 1996 as player-coach at Viktoria Bammental, in the town where he also ran a sports shop. He took Hoffenheim up into the third division before leaving in 2005.

He spent eight years as Joachim Löw's assistant with Germany, a spell crowned by the 2014 World Cup, and then worked as sporting director of the German federation. Bayern put him in charge in November 2019, after Niko Kovač left, and in 2020 his side won a sextuple of trophies, the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the Champions League among them. He added a second league title in 2021 and left at the end of that season.

He succeeded Löw as Germany head coach after Euro 2020. Germany went out in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup, and in September 2023 he became the first Germany coach to be sacked. Barcelona appointed him in May 2024, a week after dismissing Xavi Hernández.

His first season in Barcelona ended with the league title and the Copa del Rey. In his second, the club retained the championship and beat Real Madrid in the Supercopa. His Bayern team was built on an aggressive press and a high defensive line.
