Pedri

Midfielder

Spain

Barcelona

Pedri is a central midfielder for Barcelona and Spain, born Pedro González López in Tegueste on Tenerife and signed from Las Palmas as a teenager in 2020. He went from second-division football to the Barcelona first team and the senior Spain squad inside a single year, and has been a reference point in both midfields ever since.

His game is built on receiving under pressure. He takes the ball facing his own goal, turns out of trouble and releases it early, which is the main reason opponents find Barcelona so difficult to press when he is on the pitch. A run of muscle injuries in his early twenties cost him large parts of two seasons and still shapes how his minutes are managed.

He was named the best young player at Euro 2020 as an eighteen-year-old, took Olympic silver with Spain in Tokyo weeks later, and went on to win Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup in North America. That run established this generation as the strongest Spain has produced since 2010.
