Harry Kane expects a decision on his future at Bayern Munich within about a month. The 33-year-old, whose contract with the Bundesliga champions runs until 30 June 2027, said on Friday 25 September, while on England duty, that the talks were progressing well and that he expected the outcome to be positive.

Over the next month or so there should be some sort of decision and I think it will be a positive one.

His tone had firmed in two days. On Wednesday 23 September he told The Independent the two sides were close but still had points to settle, and that “it won’t be too long before there’s some sort of announcement”.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a member of Bayern’s supervisory board, told the Abendzeitung on 25 September, in comments translated from German, that “Harry’s brother and his father are currently negotiating with Jan-Christian Dreesen”, the club’s chief executive. Rummenigge said he would once have offered players over 30 only one-year contracts. Bayern, he said, were making an exception for Kane, who had been injured only once in three years.

Dreesen had already set out a timetable. Speaking before the club’s Oktoberfest visit on Sunday 20 September, he said, in comments reported by Bild and translated from German, that “we are in good talks”. He added that Kane would now take his time over the three weeks of the international break, after which things should gradually come to a close.

What has not been confirmed is what the new deal contains. Bild reported on 22 September that the talks concerned whether it would run until 2029 or 2030. Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel on 27 September that an agreement was very close and the financial terms nearly settled. The length and a clause linked to a possible return to the Premier League, he said, still had to be clarified. Neither Bayern nor Kane has confirmed a duration or a clause.

The difference matters at his age. A deal to 2029 would end a month before Kane’s 36th birthday; one to 2030 would take him to within a month of 37.

He went into the break in record form. He scored twice in the 7-0 win over Union Berlin on 18 September, reaching 100 Bundesliga goals in his 98th game, faster than any player before him, and now has 101. He is also among the favourites for the Ballon d’Or, to be awarded in London on 26 October, after scoring 73 goals in 2025/26.

The next move is Bayern’s. Kane stays with England until the break ends, and Bayern’s first match back is away at FC Augsburg on Saturday 10 October, roughly where Dreesen’s three weeks run out. Kane’s own timeline stretches to late October. Until the club announces a new deal, his fcbayern.com profile will keep listing 30 June 2027 as the end of his contract, and that is the line to watch.
