Czechia will play in the Davis Cup Final 8 for a fourth consecutive year after beating the United States 3-2 in Prague on Saturday, and they did it exactly as they did a year ago: from 2-1 down, with Jiří Lehečka and Jakub Menšík winning the last two rubbers.

Ben Shelton lost on both days. Playing five days after losing the US Open final to Alexander Zverev, he was beaten 6-4, 6-4 by Lehečka on Friday, after Learner Tien had given the Americans the lead on his Davis Cup debut by beating Menšík 6-2, 6-4.

A lot of credit to him. He outplayed me today.

Christian Harrison and Austin Krajicek saved four match points to beat Adam Pavlásek and Patrik Rikl 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) on Saturday and put the US 2-1 up. Menšík, a Roland-Garros semi-finalist in June, then came from a set down to beat Shelton 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, and Lehečka beat the world No. 13 Tien 6-3, 7-5 in the decider.

Shelton has now lost all four of his Davis Cup matches, including both on his debut in the 2024 quarter-final defeat by Australia. Lehečka said Menšík's win was what gave him the chance to play the decider, and that "most importantly, we made it through as a team." The US, record 32-time champions, have not won the competition since 2007.

South Korea reach a first quarter-final

South Korea beat India 3-1 in Seoul to reach a Davis Cup quarter-final for the first time, and became the first Asian nation to qualify for the Final 8, the knockout stage introduced in 2022. Kwon Soon-woo and Chung Hyeon both came from a set down to win Friday's singles. N Sriram Balaji and Dhakshineswar Suresh won the doubles 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 for India, before Kwon beat Sumit Nagal 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the tie.

Zverev takes Germany through

Zverev returned six days after winning in New York and beat Matej Dodig 6-4, 7-6 (3) in Halle on Saturday. Dino Prižmić levelled for Croatia against Daniel Altmaier, but Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz won Sunday's doubles, and Zverev beat Prižmić 6-2, 6-4 without facing a break point to seal a 3-1 win. He also won Roland-Garros in June, beating Menšík in the semi-finals. Germany have not won the Davis Cup since 1993.

Austria beat Belgium 3-1 in Vienna, where Jurij Rodionov won both his singles, and Félix Auger-Aliassime did the same as Canada beat France 3-1 in Quebec City. Great Britain beat Ecuador 4-0 in London, with Henry Patten and Neal Skupski clinching in the doubles, and Spain won 4-0 in Santiago without Carlos Alcaraz after Daniel Mérida and Rafael Jódar won their singles on debut.

In World Group I, Holger Rune marked his return from an Achilles injury with two wins for Denmark.

Bologna, 24 to 29 November

The seven winners join Italy, the hosts and three-time defending champions, at the SuperTennis Arena in Bologna. Italy beat Spain 2-0 in last year's final. The quarter-final draw has not yet been made.
