Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev is a German player born in Hamburg to two Soviet-era professionals who emigrated in the early 1990s. His father coaches him and his older brother Mischa also played on tour, making the family unit unusually central to his career.

He is one of the tallest players to build a game around baseline consistency rather than serve-and-volley, and his backhand is among the cleanest strokes in the sport. For years he was the leading player of his generation without a major. He led the 2020 US Open final by two sets and lost, won Olympic singles gold in Tokyo in 2021, took the season-ending finals in 2018 and 2021, and was beaten in the Roland-Garros final of 2024.

The wait ended in Paris in 2026, where he won his first Grand Slam singles title at twenty-nine, on the surface his game had always suited best.
