About the player

Ben Shelton is an American left-hander who took the college route to the tour. Born in Atlanta, the son of Bryan Shelton, a former professional and college coach, he played for the University of Florida and won the NCAA singles title in 2022 before turning professional that summer.

The breakthrough came quickly. He reached the US Open semi-finals in 2023, only his second year on tour, and the Australian Open semi-finals in 2025. That year he won the Canadian Open in Toronto for his first Masters 1000 title, and he defended it in Montreal in 2026.

His first Grand Slam final came at the 2026 US Open, where he beat the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals and lost the final to Alexander Zverev in four sets. He plays Davis Cup for the United States and made his debut at the 2024 Finals.
