About the player

Thomas Tuchel is England's head coach. The Football Association appointed him on 16 October 2024 as Gareth Southgate's successor, and he started in the job on 1 January 2025 on an 18-month contract. In February 2026 he extended it through to Euro 2028, which England co-host. That summer he led England to third place at the 2026 World Cup.

Born in Krumbach, Bavaria, in August 1973, Tuchel was a defender whose playing career ended at 25 because of a chronic knee cartilage injury. He started coaching with the youth teams at VfB Stuttgart and later FC Augsburg, then took over Mainz 05 in 2009 without any previous first-team experience, and went on to coach Borussia Dortmund.

He later coached Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Bayern Munich. At Chelsea he won the Champions League and the Club World Cup, and UEFA and FIFA both named him their men's coach of the year for 2021.
