Iga Swiatek

Iga Świątek is a Polish player from Warsaw, the daughter of a rower who competed for Poland at the 1988 Olympics and who pushed both his daughters into sport with the Games in mind. She came through the junior circuit as a Wimbledon girls' champion before turning professional.

Her tennis is heavy and topspin-driven, built for clay. She won Roland-Garros as an unseeded nineteen-year-old in 2020 and then took the title in three consecutive years from 2022, a level of clay-court control the women's game had not seen in decades. The US Open in 2022 and a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics in 2024 answered the question of whether the game travelled.

Wimbledon in 2025 answered it completely: she became the first Polish player to win the title. A sports psychologist has been a permanent member of her team since her teens, something she discusses openly and unusually directly for a player of her standing.
