Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors were founded in Philadelphia in 1946, won the first championship in league history in 1947, moved to San Francisco in 1962 and spent 47 years in Oakland before returning across the bay in 2019. The name refers to the state rather than a city, a decision taken to represent the whole of California.

Seven championships sit behind the franchise, and four of them came in eight seasons between 2015 and 2022, a dynasty built on Stephen Curry and a style of play that changed how the entire sport values the three-point shot. The 2015-16 team won 73 regular-season games, still the most in NBA history, and then lost the Finals from three games to one up.

Chase Center, their home since 2019, was privately financed at a cost of roughly $1.4 billion and holds 18,064, a smaller and far more expensive building than the arena they left in Oakland.
